Trevor Chisman Professional Massage Therapist at Massage Glasgow

TREVOR CHISMAN ITEC VTCT MIPTI

Hi, my name is Trevor and welcome to my massage website, I hope you've found the site interesting and informative so far.

The site includes lots of information about massage, specific treatment styles and modalities I practice, movement education and other health and bodywork subjects that interest me, hopefully it will answer many of your massage and movement related questions. I'm constantly updating the site so do check back regularly, if you can't find the information you're looking for please do get in touch and I'll do my best to answer your questions.

I have appeared on STV's "The Hour" (Friday 18th Feb 2011) to talk about the benefits of massage and self massage techniques. I have talked about the Tennis Ball self massage technique in The Guardian - Three-Minute Fix Tennis Ball Massage.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of my job is the great mix of people from all walks of life that I have the opportunity and fortune to work with on a daily basis. I continually work with a wide range of clients, including professional and amateur athletes, dancers, actors, musicians, students, office workers, cab drivers, managing directors and business professionals. If you find yourself in Glasgow and are looking for a professional massage which is both effective and unique, please book an appointment.

Approach

I don't believe in a 'one size fits all' approach to massage or bodywork - we are all individuals and an effective treatment needs to be shaped and tuned to meet your needs on any particular day, this is why you won't find a list of massage styles to choose your treatment from, I think of massage sytles and techniques as tools in my toolbox which I can use if needed to help you acheive your goals.

I'm qualified in many different massage styles and incorporate techniques from ancient massage styles such as traditional Chinese massage and hot stones massage with modern myofascial and trigger point work to create a unique integrated massage for you. Whilst acknowledging that many clients present with specific symptoms of pain, discomfort or restriction I strive to provide a person centered and holistic approach to my treatments. I believe the most effective and enduring work is acheived when the therapist and the client work together within a series of treatments towards a common goal. To that end, all treatments adapt and change as the therapist and client discover together what, where and how your body needs help to become more effective for you.

My objective is always the same - make eachtreament as effective as I can. I alway do my best to ease any pain and discomfort you might be experiencing, to improve your flexibility, to leave you with a deep sense of relaxation and help you feel more alive and in touch with your body.

Training

I first trained in Holistic Massage, Anatomy and Physiology with ITEC at The Beaumont College of Natural Medicine in 1993 becoming a fully qualified body massage therapist.
In 2006, I further trained and qualified in Sports Massage Therapy with VTCT at St Mary's University College, Twickenham, a recognised centre of sporting excellence and education.
Over the years I've also attended many additional courses and workshops to further my knowledge and skills in specific areas of treatment and have certificates in Deep Tissue Techniques, MET (Muscle Energy Techniques), Soft Tissue Release, Myofascial Release Techniques, Trigger Point Treatment, Hot Stones, Seated Shiatsu.
Find out more about my teachers on my Friends and Colleagues page.

I hold a current Emergency First Aid certificate issued by St Andrews First Aid and am also a fully qualified "free weights" fitness instructor qualifying with NABBA (National Amateur Body Building Association) in 1990.

I continually try to learn as much as I possibly can in my efforts to develop my own personal approach to integrated massage and improve my understanding of how the body works. For me, this involves having regular and varied treatments myself, practicing Yoga and Chi Gung and attending massage and bodywork courses and workshops on a regular basis - over and above my continual professional development requirements. But most of all I learn from my clients, I actively encourage feedback and adapt and change my treatments on the feedback I receive.

Massage and bodywork are my passion as well as my profession.

Professional memberships

I am registered with the Complimentary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) (Registration 00238-B10).
